Bathed in the red glow of Coalition, The Twilight Sad start with the more modest of openers, in keeping with their dark, brooding sonic style.

The influence of Andrew Weatherall, producer of their latest album 'No One Can Ever Know',  has its fingerprint all over the set. It's bashful and for Twilight Sad fans of old, an optimistic place to start.

"We've got nothing to do with Vampires. Those films are shit" lead singer James Graham proclaims, in a brief but controlled flirtation with audience interaction. The audiences laughs. Of course.

With cult classics from their debut like 'That Summer, At Home I Had Become The Invisible Boy' to fall back on it's become a lot more comfortable for the Glaswegian outfit. In their new album mode they can relax into electro rhythm and beats without losing any of the intensity of their guitar laden apocalyptic rock 'n' roll.

The venue seems befitting, if there ever could be a place befitting of this, something so remote, bleak and without remorse. Coalition's bare brick walls and neat cove like corners give the setting the intimacy it needs.

'Cold Days from the Bird House' and closer 'And She Would Darken The Memory' serve as a reminder of the huge power and immediacy the band can bring when pushed. They may have brought their usual fan contingent but many new faces here are turning to finding their new favourite Glaswegian doom-rock band.
