Blur last played an outdoor concert together when they reformed
with their original line-up in 2009 for a series of shows, including Glastonbury Festival and one night at
Hyde Park.
Blur will be joined on the
bill by Coventy two-tone legends The Specials and newly
reformed Mancunian rockers New Order.
Hyde
Park was recently the subject of a council dispute in which Westminster Council ruled events will be cut in both size and number in future. This ruling will not significantly
affect Hyde Park events until 2013.
The band's official Facebook page posted the poster and this comment: "We're rowing in..
going for gold.. grabbing the baton.. for the high jump.. No, hang on, is that right? Fact is, Blur have accepted the invite to headline the Olympics' Closing Ceremony Celebration
Concert in Hyde Park on 12th August."
