Laura Marling joins Primavera Sound 2012 line-up

Beirut, Richard Hawley, Girls, Black Lips, Wavves, The War On Drugs, Thee Oh Sees, Japandroids and Sharon Van Etten are also new names for the festival, which takes place in Barcelona from 30 May to 3 June.

R.E.M.’s Mike Mills will return to European festival action at Primavera as part of Big Star’s Third, an all-star line-up formed by Big Star’s Jody Stephens to perform the band’s third album in full, with guest singers including Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor, Norman Blake from Teenage Fanclub and Yo La Tengo’s Ira Kaplan.

The Chameleons, The Pop Group, Main, Swans frontman Michael Gira and Nick Garrie are newly confirmed as well.

Iceage, Trash Talk, Friends, Milk Music, I Break Horses, Lower Dens, Death Grips,  James Ferraro, Girls Names, Hannii El Khatib, Father John Misty, Bleached, Dirty Beaches, Bombino, Afrocubismo and Danny Brown are also on this year’s bill.

Grupo de Expertos Solynieve, Christina Rosenvinge, Bigott, Refree, La Estrella De David, The Right Ons, Atleta, Doble Pletina, Beach Beach and Unicornibot will all play too.

Erol Alkan and Benga head up the electronic side of things, with Rustie, John Talabot Pional, Aeroplane, The Field and Scuba in tow.

Meanwhile, All Tomorrow´s Parties will bring Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo, Demdike Stare,Tall Firs and “house band” Shellac to the event.

The likes of The Cure, Bjork, Franz Ferdinand and the xx are among those previously confirmed to play Primavera Sound this year.

There will also be free concerts held in the Arc del Triomf area of Barcelona during the festival, with Yann Tiersen, Jeremy Jay, Saint Etienne and The Wedding Present set to play.
