Sonisphere is big line up hit at UK Festival Awards
Rock festival takes line-up of the year gong
Chris Swindells - 14 November 2011
The festival this year celebrated its third anniversary but in this relative infancy still managed to organise one of
the most eclectic and original line-ups of the year.
The 'Big Four', consisting of thrash forerunners Metallica, Slayer,
Megadeth and Anthrax
all played the Friday night, marking their first time playing together on UK soil. While Biffy Clyro played their first major headline festival performance, with support from Weezer
and The Mars Volta. Slipknot closed the weekend
festival with an emotional performance, their first on UK soil without bassist Paul Gray who passed in 2010.
The weekend was awash with festival firsts as Bill Bailey
headlined the Saturn Stage with a his traditional mix of whimsical comedy songs, elsewhere Richard
Cheese, Mastodon and Limp Bizkit all performed the event at the historic home of
live music, Knebworth House, Stevenage.
The 'Line-up of the Year' award was decided by a judging
panel made up of journalists and reviewers who have been visiting festivals and scoring them on criteria which have been set
by the industry.
The festival received a 9/10
Virtual Festival review.
Tickets for Sonisphere 2012 are expected to go on sale by
the end of the year.
