Rumour Mill: The Rolling Stones for 50th anniversary tour?

Well, they were seen leaving an office together

The Rolling Stones were seen leaving a building together in London yesterday. Was there a “buy one, get three free” special on Werther’s Originals going on somewhere that somehow passed us by? Did they all just want to get their copies of Keef’s book signed?

Said book is said to have caused tensions within the band, so maybe they just wanted to hit him over the head with it, but with it being the band’s 50th anniversary next year, speculation is now rife that they were meeting to plan a 2012 World Tour.

Rolling Stone (where did they get that name from?) say that nothing will be confirmed for a while as “Mick Jagger wants all attention focused on his new band SuperHeavy,” and having cracked that all-important Top 13 in the album chart with their debut this week, who can blame him?

After all the Stones For Glastonbury/Isle Of Wight rumours from last year, it’s wise to stay cautious about it all anyway – Jagger recently told USA Today that a 2012 tour is “not on the table” (of course it isn’t, Mick, why would you look for it there? Etc.), and far more intriguingly, that he employs some kind of tweet-butler.

We know the always-up-for-it Ronnie Wood is in though (this is how desperate people can get when forced to play with Mick Hucknall for any length of time), revealing to the Evening Standard a couple of months ago that they were considering putting on a series of gigs in Hyde Park: "We'll try to recapture the old camaraderie... I know Keith is fully supportive, as are the rest of the boys in the Stones. We'll see what we can do as a unit. Playing Hyde Park would be fabulous."

With no gigs or festivals since 2007, we’ll be very disappointed their big event for 2012 really does end up being just a bloody plaque.
