“You’re still standing up on Sunday - that’s a good sign,”
says Dutch Uncles singer Duncan Wallis to a healthy
crowd on the Festival Republic stage. An even better sign is that there are song requests being shouted out, and people at
the front trying to recreate the frontman’s distinctive dance moves.
A busy festival summer has honed their
skills, and it’s clear many here first heard them at other events. ‘Face In’ and ‘Fragrant’
get everyone dancing, while one punter’s shout for ‘Steadycam’ is quickly and impressively honoured.
The Talking Heads/Franz disco pop gets some Steve Reich prog leanings for a towering version of ‘The Ink’,
and things end with a celebratory ‘Doppelganger’, after another crowd shout.
As an autumn tour beckons,
things won’t get any less busy, but as D.U. leave the stage all smiles, you reckon that’s how they’d want
it.
