Friendly Fires,
the second St. Albans band in a row to grace the main stage are a change of pace from the furious
guitar driven electronica of Enter Shikari. Instead they blend their synthesized sound in with funk and
groove.
Providing possibly one of the best chances to dance your feet raw, and kick the mud around, they deliver
a class in funk disco and onstage they seem to be just as into the music as the listener.
Ed 'Snakehips' Macfarlane
doesn't take himself too seriously and dances like a child fed too much soda pop, releasing the sugar through flailed arms
and jerky hips. The band work their way through an impressive array of foot tapping anthems spanning only two studio albums.
Bringing out a hoard of hula girls for the song 'Hawaiian Air' and finishing off with an extended jam version
of 'Kiss Of Life', the set is as inducing of involuntary impromptu dancing as it is a musically brilliant and strong main
stage set.
The only downfall is Ed's moves apparently working as a rain dance as another burst of downpour starts
as soon as they leave the stage.
