The band’s original line up – Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward – have already
begun rehearsing for a tour and new album.
Osbourne and Iommi are believed to have written new material in June
this year, with Iommi telling the
Birmingham Mail: “We’re really looking forward to it and I think the stuff we’ve been writing is
really good, it’s more back to the old original stuff.”
The legendary guitarist also revealed
that singer Osbourne had been struggling to keep the reunion under wraps: “It’s all been very hush-hush. Ozzy’s
been the worst at trying to hold it back. He’s doing a lot of TV and he’s being asked stuff about a reunion and
he’s going ‘well I never say never.’ He told me, ‘I don’t know what to say’.”
With the cat now out of the bag, touring plans will surely mean some festival
shows, with either Download Festival 2012 or Sonisphere 2012 the most likely UK destination.
Download’s recent tradition of booking one 'classic rock' headliner puts them in the frame,
whilst the band must surely join Sonisphere’s wishlist for next year too.
In fact, the band
were mentioned by Sonisphere organiser Stuart Galbraith at a press
conference at this year’s festival when discussing Sonisphere
2012 line up targets.
Having said that Foo
Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers
were "two in a long list we're talking to," and confirming that no-one was yet pencilled in, he stressed that
“making the event as broad as we can” was the priority.
"We could have Green Day or Blink 182. We
could equally have Rammstein, Black Sabbath, Metallica or
Iron Maiden. But there's no point us booking [for example]
Metallica, Rammstein
and Slayer, and equally no point booking Blink [182], Green Day and My Chemical Romance. We need a balance across the weekend."
