Riot fires damage independent record labels stock
Bands, festival world react to Sony/PIAS distribution centre news

The three-storey building houses stock from both Sony and PIAS, who work with a huge
amount of independent labels, including the larger XL, Domino and Rough Trade imprints
as well as a host of smaller labels.

Sunday Best was also affected. He tweeted:
“so looks like all our Sunday Best stock went up in flames last night in the PIAS blaze.”
While there
are conflicting reports on the state of the building, it’s currently believed that all stock has been lost.
Benefit gigs for the affected labels are being planned, chiefly via writer Fion
Chadd’s Twitter page.

later this year, tweeted: “I can't imagine what damage the
fire at PIAS is going to do to the Music Industry. So many labels got hurt bad last night.”

Industries’ Dutch Uncles , who will play Beacons,
Summer Sundae Weekender 2011 and the Festival Republic stage at
this year’s Reading & Leeds festivals tweeted
a link to a list of stricken labels, suggesting fans “go and buy as many releases from any label”
on it.
In a statement this morning, PIAS said: "There was a fire last night at the SonyDADC warehouse which services the physical distribution for PIAS in the UK and Ireland. PIAS is working closely with SonyDADC who are implementing their emergency plans. PIAS's UK offices in London and all other areas of our business are unaffected."
