Her afternoon show at The Big Chill 2011
was a high tempo showcase of her debut 'The ArchAndroid' which featured a sprawl of musicians and dancers in black
and white clothes, Monae herself donning a clock/cape at the beginning.
Entering to album opener
'Suite II Overture', the US star then went non-stop and segued 'Dance Or Die', 'Faster' and 'Locked
Inside' into one another.
There was play-fighting, a cover of Jackson 5's 'I Want You
Back' and an easel that arrived during 'Mushrooms & Roses' on which Monae painted, though
she's not quite at Monet standards yet.
Her band were incredibly tight though, especially on 'Tightrope' and
the creeping Straycats bass-line of 'Come Alive [War Of The Roses]'.
Even as a suddenly heavy shower battered
the crowd during her final song, Monae incorporated into the show laughing: "I made that happen."
