Murmurings in the crowd suggested Tinie Tempah was
arriving by helicopter, plane, hot air balloon and weirdly, by boat. The first three might have been sensible due to Global
Gathering being held on a gigantic disused air field, but perhaps not a boat as this is about as inland as you can be in the
UK.
After a ten minute intro of shamelessly self promotional edits to popular songs, such as replacing the club-hit
'Barbera Streissand' with the words 'Tinie Tempah'
and building the crowd into a frenzy, Tinie appeared at the back of the stage in a hooded coat to a deafening roar from the
audience.
Tinie and his house band played a succession of hits, with the crowd singing along to every single one.
Fans were pogoing along to the likes of Swedish House Mafia
collaboration 'Miami 2 Ibiza', 'Invincible' and the massive 'Wonderman'.
Tinie admitted
"I'm going to America tomorrow, and I don't wanna go. You know what I mean?" and thanked the festival organisers
for having him headline.
Obviously overcome with joy at seeing her favourite act, one neon-paint covered fan was
hoiked unceremoniously over the barrier having actually 'passed out' at 'Pass Out' and the encore 'Written In
The Stars' had Tinie yell, "I wanna see you fucking lose your nut right now," as the swirling crowd went mental.
Pendulum headlined the first night of Global Gathering 2011, expect a full review of the two day event shortly.
