Eavis: Glastonbury only has up to four years left

Organiser believes music festivals are on the way out

Speaking to The Times, Eavis claimed that festivals were "on the way out", saying he thought people were tiring of them.

He also cited the expense of booking high-profile acts as another factor, revealing that Glastonbury nearly went bankrupt in 2008, when it only sold out on the weekend of the festival.

"Partly it's economics, but there is a feeling that that people have seen it all before," he said. "We've probably got another three or four years. WOMAD and Latitude are not selling out."

While Eavis recently hailed Jay-Z for "saving the festival" in 2008, he also claimed that the slow ticket sales that year nearly saw it go under: "We sell out only because we get huge headliners. In the year Jay-Z played we nearly went bankrupt."

U2, Coldplay and Beyonce headlined Glastonbury 2011. The Worthy Farm festival is set to take a year off next year, with Eavis saying the three headliners are "already lined up" for 2013.
