The exchange, at www.thetickettrust.com,
will give festival ticketholders who can no longer attend a sold-out event the chance to re-sell their ticket to someone else
at face value, "without the fear of fraud."
Those wishing to sell tickets will have to register them on the site,
then post them to the Trust. Once verified, the ticket will then be made available for sale at face value, plus a 10% handling
fee, and then sent out or held for collection at the box office.
AIF vice chair Ben Turner,
the man behind the Trust, revealed the idea was born from his disgust with what he sees as the secondary ticket companies'
"profiteering": “AIF has pulled together its festival members to collectively make a simple message
– AIF festivals do not and will not play the secondary ticketing market for profiteering. We object
to the practices of many of the so-called secondary ticketing market companies."
Bestival promoter
and fellow AIF founder Rob da Bank added:
"The festivals who say they’ve sold out while blatantly putting hundreds or thousands of tickets through a secondary
seller are just plain dishonest. I hope that the Ticket Trust can be a safe and secure place for honest ticket trading to
take place."
18 festivals, including Secret Garden Party, Bestival, Camp Bestival, Creamfields
and End of the Road, have signed up for the initial run, while the service hopes to be open to "any festival
or gig promoters who wish to enable their ticket buyers to sell unwanted tickets ethically" by the autumn.
