Opening fireworks promised more than was delivered despite an album spanning set list which plundered old gems like 'Yellow',
'In My Place', 'The Scientist' and 'Shiver'.
The ever-endearing Chris Martin didn't let the crowd
down as he took time out to say: "Thank you for letting us play your beautiful country," which had no hint of jaded
stage cliche.
However, with a Swedish House Mafia
- or nearby rides - baseline pounding the life out of the back of the crowd Coldplay's quieter numbers were rendered useless
to all but those within the D barrier.
The thumping 'Viva La Vida' livened spirits but it was too little too late.
Long before an encore took place, fans drifted away to alternative stages or back to their tents with few being enticed
to Saturday's late night Main Stage party.
Nineteen-year-old Scott Laing, from Glasgow, said: "I don't usually
listen to Coldplay but they
were okay tonight."
