Following on from the Green Traveller scheme, where those arriving at the festival via bicycle or public transport get discounts on meals and merchandise as well as access to green shower and toilet facilities, this new development continues the festival efforts to make as much waste recyclable as possible.

All serving materials at the food stalls are already either wooden or compostable, while some of the stages are even solar-powered.

Michael Eavis said: “We’re encouraging people to be as green as possible at this year’s Festival. We have put many new measures in to help us achieve this, not least by inviting Nouvelle on board as Recycling Partner to the Festival, to give away free toilet tissue."

The Glastonbury Green Police will be out in force again, helping punters in the aim of keeping the festival as environmentally friendly as possible, with colour coded bins to recycle waste, and a "Please Take It Home" scheme to discourage people leaving tents behind, while Greenpeace are hosting their own eco-friendly recording studio made from wood and straw at the event.

Glastonbury 2011 takes place on 22 - 26 June at Worthy Farm, Pilton.

U2, Coldplay and Beyonce will headline the sold out festival.
