Alice Cooper up to old tricks at Download
US rockers takes over second stage
Anna Hyams - 12 June 2011
Tonight at Download Festival 2011
on the Second Stage, Alice Cooper
produced a set of veritable rock hymns, opening with classic number ‘Black Widow’.
Cooper made a predictably ostentatious entrance: he arrived on top of a huge set of web-covered stairs, with a few more arms than usual attached to his jacket, and a dramatic curtain drop.
Throughout the set he strutted around the stage in various outfits; studded leather jackets sporting his own logo (chalk one up on the rock n roll checklist), a silver tophat and tails combination and even a jacket with NEW SONG emblazoned on the back to signify the coming of ‘I’ll Bite Your Face Off’ which Cooper said at an earlier press conference, is to be released on the upcoming album ‘Welcome To My Nightmare’ in 2012.
Thousands of people turned up to see Alice Cooper’s
highly theatrical show and were audibly blown away by the level of creativity. He threw out fake dollar bills, beat up a rag
doll, and brought a giant lookalike monster to life and even got his head chopped off in a guillotine.
A young girl in the crowd said: "I know he’s like, really old but he’s so hot! Even when he’s covered in blood!".
Singing every single word, the audience went wild for ‘Poison’ and ‘School’s Out’ as the moon rose behind the stage.
