Covers and Communion love: Bushstock 2011 kicks off
Tom Williams And The Boat, Michael Kiwanuka play
Chris Eustace - 04 June 2011
Daughter, also known as Elena Tonra, opened proceedings
at St. Stephen's Church with a well-received set of acoustic songs.
Communion act Michael Kiwanuka followed, prompting a huge crowd reaction, and even a mini-singalong
during a closing cover of Bill Withers' ‘I Don't Know’.
At Shepherds Bar, Tom Williams and The Boat
delivered a storming performance, with Williams deadpanning "that was the old intro!" after some tech gremlins caused
the band to have to restart ‘Neckbrace’.
The likes of Cattle and Cane have played The Goldhawk, while Greenwich Tea Party have just opened at a fourth venue, Ginglik.
Guillemots, Peggy
Sue and Cloud Control are among those
set to play later on.
An earlier rumour that Mumford and Sons could perform, whose Ben Lovett co-owns Communion, were quashed quickly, with the
band on tour in the US.
