U2 protest planned at Glastonbury 2011
Campaigners say band 'greedily indulges' in 'tax avoidance'

Daniel Fahey - 04 June 2011
According to the Guardian, a group
called Art Uncut will use a large inflatable banner that will spell out ‘Bono Pay Up’ in lights,
while the NME have suggested that big bundles of fake money will float in front
of the stage during the show.
A spokesman for Art Uncut said: "Bono claims to care about the developing world,
but U2 greedily indulges in the very kind
of tax avoidance which is crippling the poor nations of this world.
"We will be showing the very real
impact of U2's tax avoidance on hospitals and schools in Ireland. Anyone watching will be very much aware that Bono needs
to pay up."
The controversy arises after U2
moved their business affairs from Ireland to the Netherlands in 2006, where they could earn tax breaks on the sale of their
CDs.
Both the festival and the band’s management refused to comment on the story.
U2 will headline Glastonbury
Festival 2011, which will return to Worthy Farm in Somerset from 22-26 June,
alongside Coldplay and Beyonce.
It will be the first time the group have played the event.
Glastonbury 2011 is sold out.
