Festival tickets to be sent out earlier to combat fraud
Live Nation and Festival Republic join crime crackdown
While the delay in sending out tickets until just before the event means that counterfeiters have less time to copy tickets,
it has also meant that people buying from fake sites only realise when tickets are not sent out, while also making it difficult
to prove fraud.
With around £168m reportedly lost every year through ticket scams, the companies - two of the UK's biggest live promoters - have agreed to a police suggestion to send out tickets immediately.
Det Ch Supt Steve Head of the City of London Police Force welcomed this new measure, saying he thought it would cut such crime.
"We believe that would stop a lot of people being the victims because we'd be able to act on it quicker, convicting the kind of people we want to convict," he said.
"It's not about business, they are fraudsters."
