VF offer Foals a Great Escape

United Kingdom United Kingdom | 21 May 2007

Our venue at the festival, Horatio's on Brighton Pier, was the scene of one of the gigs of the weekend as Foals played an impromtu set on Friday evening.

With the weather becoming increasingly menacing throughout the day, festival organisers were forced to cancel the band's eagerly awaited gig on one of the new, outdoor stages.

We got a call at around 6pm asking if there was anything we could do. A quick shuffling of set times and one T-Mobile text alert later and the show was on, with Foals kicking off their set at 7.30.

Once the word was out scores of fans rushed up the pier to get a glimpe of one of the most sought after bands of 2007. Many were turned away (Horatio's only has a capacity of about 250) but those fortunate enough to be there were treated to an electric set, with highlights including 'Hummer' and 'Balloons'.

Foals were not the only surprise guests. Eamon Hamilton from Brakes popped down on Saturday to play with his pals Hey Gravity.

Other acts who thrilled audiences throughout the two-day fringe event in Horatio's included Intervurt, Neck and The Thirst. Sadly, Whitestar had to cancel as singer Simon Bryan was hopitalised with sciatic nerve damage - we wish him a speedy recovery. Stay posted for VF's coverage from the rest of The Great Escape
