The Lemonheads and more for Latitude

The Lemonheads will play their first UK festival in aeons at this year's Latitude three-dayer, with Patti Smith, Jose Gonzalez, and Mystery Jets among the many just confirmed... And what's this about Mills And Boon?

Organisers have just released loads more names for the event. The Lemonheads make their return to UK festivals for the first time in almost ten years. The band's most infamous festival moment came when they missed their slot at Glastonbury 1995 because singer Evan Dando was too wasted. He then tried to make up for it by performing to fans from the top of fast food vans for the rest of the weekend. Apparently he's calmed down a bit now, fitting perhaps for what Latitude is trying to achieve.

Other musical acts just added are Patti Smith, Jose Gonzalez, Howling Bells, The Organ, Mystery Jets, Polytechnic, Mr Husdon, and Tiny Dancers.

They join headliners Snow Patrol, Antony And The Johnsons, and Mogwai, plus previously announced acts Regina Spektor, Mercury Rev, The Zutons and The Pipettes, with more to be announced in the coming weeks.

The festival will also feature everything from poetry to politics and cabaret to comedy - and if you fancy writing and performing your own poem you could win your way there with a friend for free. Click here for more.

Non-musical attractions already lined up include a Halloween Film Club, Robin Ince's Book Club, Guilty Pleasures, Lavish Cabaret, and a Children's Art and Theatre Area.

Just announced for Robin Ince's Book Club (described as dragging out 'the freaks of literature, music and comedy') are Josie Long (BBC new Comedy Award Winner, Chortle Best New Act), Wil Hodgson (Perrier Best Newcomer 2004), the fabulous twisted poet Tim Key, Gary Le Strange (Perrier Best Newcomer 2003), Neil Edmond (from The Consultants, Perrier Best Newcomers 2002), Caroline Clifford and her revenge comic books, The Trap, and The Phil Jeays Band.

The club will also seek to identify the worst book of all time, with festival goers strongly encouraged to bring their own stinkers for the 'enjoyment' of others - talking of which there will apparently be a lot of Mills & Boon floating around!

The first batch of comedians have also been confirmed. They include Jason Manford, Dan Antopolski, Andrew Maxwell, Adam Bloom, Sean Lock, Marcus Bridgstocke, and Rob Newman.

And details of the Vox'N'Roll guest speakers have emerged. Pink Floyd producer Joe Boyd, music journalist Cathi Unsworth, Paul Weller biographer David Lines, former Clash tour manager Johnny Green, and famed pot dealer Howard Marx are just some of the fascinating figures that will be sharing their experiences.

The brainchild of Mean Fiddler's Melvin Benn, Latitude has been inspired by events from Europe, such as Lowlands in The Netherlands, as well as the cultured vibe of the Hay On Wye Festival.
