New home for Creamfields

Creamfields, two-year winner of 'Best Dance Festival' in the UK Festival Awards, has hosted its flagship event at the Old Liverpool Airfield in Speke, Liverpool, for the last 7 years, following its move from the Matterly Bowl in Winchester after just one outing.

However, with the current site subject to development, organisers are now planning to relocate the event to part of the Daresbury Estate in the borough of Halton. The greenfield site is in the heart of the Cheshire countryside surrounded by woodland with easy access from the motorway network.

Meetings have already taken place with Halton Borough Council, the police, and the emergency services but the event planning is still at an early stage. The licence application is expected to be submitted over the coming weeks.

James Barton, Chief Executive of Cream, says: "Creamfields is an internationally acclaimed event and over the last seven years has made a huge contribution to Liverpool's cultural renaissance.  A successful Creamfields will help promote Halton and demonstrate their willingness to deliver a major cultural event."

VF first learnt of plans to relocate the festival during an interview with Barton in July last year. He told us: "It's a well known fact that the site in Liverpool we're currently based in is a development site, so at some point we'll have to move Creamfields. But I don't want to move outside of Liverpool. It's part of the city's musical fabric now. We're looking for a new site and have been working with the council for the last couple of years towards finding another venue." Click here for the full interview.

Wherever this year's Creamfields ends up, it's bound to be another cracker with The Prodigy already lined up as one of the headliners.
