Tim Minchin: an off-piste interview
The Aussie stand-up talks about Altitude 2012
Virtual Festivals - 20 March 2012
You’re performing at Altitude later this month March, could you tell us some of your favourite places to
hang out in the resort?
I have never been there. I once stayed in a ski resort in the mid-1990’s. My favourite places were the bar and the karaoke room. I can't imagine that will change.
Have you asked for anything unusual on your rider?
I always ask for 44 blue m&ms in a bowl washed with angel saliva and placed in a two man tent. Sometimes the venue comes up with something, sometimes they don't. But even without that, my rider is pretty unusual for a comedian. It starts with a Yamaha C7.
Will you be packing anything special in your suitcase for your trip?
Lots of eyeliner.
Have you got a favourite ski run in Mayrhofen?
Huh! I'm from Perth. I can tell you my favourite sand dunes?
What are you listening to on your ipod?
The Skeptics Guide to the Universe.
What’s your favourite holiday read?
I read all sorts of stuff. At the moment it's a werewolf book. Which sounds crappy, but it's actually brilliant. It's by Glen Duncan. One chapter starts "All paradigm shifts answer the amoral craving for novelty". That would be a pretty frickin amazing sentence even if it weren't in a monster fiction.
Can you recommend any ski/ boarding gear? / what’s your favourite item of ski wear?
Umm. I can recommend you a sunscreen?
When you take a break, where’s your favourite holiday destination?
Denmark in Western Australia. My Grandad owns a rammed-earth cottage on a ten-acre block 5 minutes from William Bay. Most of the property is Karri forest. Sublime.
Altitude Comedy Festival 2012 takes place from 26-31 March in the ski resort of Mayrhofen, Austria with appearences from Jimmy Carr, Frankie Boyle, Phill Jupitus, Ed Byrne and Marcus Brigstoke.
