We had a chat with Liverpool Sound City organiser David J Pichilingi to find out how to make the most of this year's festival.

What's the best way to get started at Liverpool Sound City?
“The best way is to acquaint yourself with the festival site. We try and keep all 35 stages focused within a very tight walking area. That way you can get from one venue to the other with as little hassle as possible and catch as many bands as is humanly possible.”

Three bands not to miss at Liverpool Sound City:
“I could name the obvious acts like Maccabees, Delphic, Paloma Faith, Wild Beasts... but I won't. You should try and get to see some undiscovered or new gems.
1 - Holy Fuck.
2 - Daisy Dares You.
3 - The Red Suns, a new Liverpool band who are flying high on everyone's radar at the moment. They're a cross between Bunnymen and Joy Division.
4 - That reminds me, I am also looking forward to Ian McCulloch [from Echo and the Bunnymen] performing a rare solo set in the splendid setting of St George's Hall."

What do you recommend away from the music?
“Liverpool is a breathtaking city to walk around - simply taking in the architecture could take up a whole day - but we have lots of other stuff on offer at Sound City, including the UK premiere of 'The Other Side of Hip Hop', which features a rare Q&A opportunity with Afrika Bambaataa and Ernie Pannicioli. We also have an international gig poster fayre called Screenadelica that features posters from designers from all over the USA, Europe and UK. Aside from that, you should definitely take the musical heritage trip, which takes you into John Lennon's old bedroom where many a fine tune was penned.”

What tips do you have for fans who have just found out the venue is full for the act they want to see?
“Because of the size of the venues we use and because we plan our festival meticulously, we do not have too many of these problems. However, if you really want to get in, make sure you get there nice and early.”

What one essential item will people need to complete Liverpool Sound City successfully?
“The Live Guide that is given out free to everyone who attends is all you need. I guess the only other thing is bags of energy for the four days and nights of non-stop gigs and parties.”

What's the best way to finish the weekend?
“We have some amazing secret events lined up for the closing night's festivities, which are soon to be unveiled. Once it is all over you should definitely sleep, recharge the batteries, relive the great memories and get ready to do it all again next year.”
