Shelter at The Secret Garden

United Kingdom United Kingdom | | 14 August 2006

Music lovers at Cambridge’s Secret Garden Party on 18–20 August will be able to put their wellies up and enjoy all the comforts of home, along with cutting-edge live music, at the charity’s brand new Living Room venue.

The charity has teamed up with Cambridge music charity, Hope Street Music, to bring a weekend of live acoustic music and retro chic to the festival.

The Living Room has been designed with home comfort in mind - and with rain predicted this weekend it could well prove a Godsend!

Decked out in classic kitsch wallpaper and adorned with rugs, cushions, and candles, festival goers will be invited in to watch live bands, rest weary feet, chill out on a comfy sofa and enjoy a cup of tea.

Bands already confirmed to play include Pure Reason Revolution (pictured), Greg Hall, Moe Foe, The Shivers and Badwell Ash - and don't rule out more playing impromptu sets on the day.

As well as enjoying live music and home comforts, Shelter is calling on all visitors to the Living Room to support its Million Children Campaign, which is calling on the government to end bad housing for the next generation of children.

In Cambridgeshire alone, almost 600 homeless people and families are currently trapped in temporary accommodation, which ruins their health, education and future chances.

Adam Sampson, director of Shelter said: “Music-lovers can escape the grime of the festival and come and enjoy home comforts and retro chic at Shelter’s Living Room. At the same time you can make a difference to children suffering from homelessness and bad housing by backing our campaign for change.

“It is scandalous that squalid housing conditions are destroying the health, education and future chances of thousands of children in Cambridge, more than one million children across Britain.”

The Living Room is also offering free, confidential, one to one housing advice.

The Secret Garden Party takes place this weekend (19-20 August) at a secret location in Cambridgeshire. Click here for more or here to find out more about Shelter.
