Sonic Visions 2013: six degrees of separation

Celebrating six years of Sonic Visions

Benjamin Clementine

24-year-old Benjamin only left Paris for London four years ago but since then his soulful voice has led him to a support slot with Woodkid, a record deal and an appearance on Later with Jools Holland.

Sigur Rós

Fellow guests for Jools, Sigur Rós have the honour of headlining the second, and final, day of Sonic Visions this year. The band recently lost a member to become a three piece, before releasing their seventh studio album 'Kveikur' in March of this year.

I Break Horses

Maria Lindén's I Break Horses were chosen to support Sigur Rós this year ahead of the release of their second full-length album, 'Chiaroscuro', via Bella Union on 20th January.

Pegasus

Another act to reference the Equidae animal family, at least in the sense of creatures in Greek mythology, Pegasus was a winged divine stallion and also the moniker for a Swedish pop-rock quartet.

Frightened Rabbit

The FR team joined Pegasus at Eurosonic Noorderslag earlier this year, at which point they were previewing their 2013 release 'Pedestrian Verse'.

Which all brings us, rather awkwardly, back to Sigur Rós as Frightened Rabbit shared a former label with the Icelandic outfit, through which they released three records from 2007-2010. Frontman Scott Hutchison also played an acoustic slot with songs from his solo record 'mirror/echo' for a screening of their film 'INNI' back in 2011. How neat.
