Green-eyed Monsters: a Green Man Festival preview
Green Man has grown up

Chris Swindells - 08 August 2012
The music-lovers festival, Green Man is the weekend of top wonders deep in Wales, it's had years growing up but in 2012
has emerged in the big leagues with headline slots from Van Morrison, Feist and Mogwai.
Our six to watch:
Stephen Malkmus &
the Jicks
Pavement man Malkmus might be remembered for sweater friendly college rock from the nineties
but his solo project has anything but vanity written across the forehead. With a little help from the Jicks and producer Beck,
Malkmus has produced a refreshingly vibrant and tuneful fifth album 'Mirror Traffic' - definitely
one you shouldn't miss.
Tune-Yards
Merrill Garbus
has harvested a wondrous low-fi ensemble of wild percussive beats and rich brass and electronic beats to form her second and
most accomplished album, 'w h o k i l l'. Her debut in 2009 received a string of critical merits and awards, earning
her a record deal with 4AD and chance to expand the formula on stage, and an international one at that.
Mr Scruff
Disappear to the Far Out After
Dark Stage to get a taste of the English man, DJ, producer, cartoonist & tea drinker Mr Scruff. Since his seminal late
nineties release 'Keep It Unreal', Scruffy has held on to an eclectic fusion of trip-hop and jazz that has endeared
him to electronica fans the world over.
Robin Ince
Catch the card carrying atheist
and socio-political comedy frontrunner on the form of his life as he plays both the Comedy and Literature Stage. Curating
the recent string of Uncaged Monkeys and Lessons for Godless People shows, Ince is a dab hand at off-the-cuff
witticisms and the impotent fury of the middle man.
Alt-J
We've been hailing these four as alt-rock
saviours all year, since they were listed in our 2012 'Ones to Watch', so frankly if you've not seen them by now maybe you don't deserve a festival
website of this calibre. If you have found them then join us in throwing shapes and salutes to the new kings of math, rock
and Mac shortcuts.
The Tallest Man On Earth
Sultan Kösen is technically the tallest man on earth, Kristian Matsson is technically The Tallest Man On Earth. Whilst
the Guiness World Records will only recognise the former, the latter has a good list of devout followers and fans, who has
been charmed by his superior stage presence and charm. Catch highlights from his third album 'There's No Leaving Now',
released in June, amongst his beautifully crafted folk numbers, reminicist of early Dylan and Guthrie.
