Gnarly dude! A Boardmasters 2011 preview
The essential guide to the surf, skate, and music festival
Owen Evans on 04 August 2011
The name may be a bit of a mouthful - Relentless Energy Boardmasters in association with Vans festival (or, erm.. REBIAWVF
for short) – but it represents just how much it packs in: surf, skate and music all at the sunny (please!) haven of
Newquay for three uninterrupted days of goofy-foots, half-pipes and Fatboy
Slim. Stoked? Hell yeah!
Sounds sick, but what’s a goofy foot?
Get with the programme Big Kahuna; a goofy foot is when a surfer rides with their left foot as a lead.
Gotcha, what else is there to do? How about the music?
There are so many bands like my dreaded brother Newton Faulkner, acid-rave spacemen Klaxons, hip hop whippet Lethal Bizzle, to name a few. Plus there are loads of competitions where pro-skaters and surfers can compete for £10,000! And don’t forget the 3 days of chillaxin by the beach. Bodacious!
5 of da bomb at Boardmasters
The Stereo MCs
Bombastic rave survivors of the nineties with rambling hypnotic musings from skeletal shaman, Rob Birch.
Stereo MC's - Connected on MUZU.TV
Earnest slices of Americana folk, from the criminally overlooked singer songwriter. Support.
Willy Mason - Save Myself on MUZU.TV
The Scratch Perverts
Expect a stomping set from the hip hop collective that allegedly has more members than Chumbawumba.
Scratch Perverts - UK - DMC - 1999 - World Team Championships on MUZU.TV
Epic rantings from the wild eye-browed frontman that is Eddie Argos that make you wanna party like when you were 15.
Art Brut - Alcoholics Unanimous on MUZU.TV
Still going strong since he left Busted. This is a solo outing for the Fightstar man.
NME - Charlie Simpson - 'Parachutes' (exclusive performance) on MUZU.TV
Can I listen to more?
Of course you can, with our Spotify playlist.
That all sounds good to me, but can I still get tickets or have they sailed away?
