Steve, the Barfly Stage Manager

VF: How has this Download been for you so far?
Steve: This weekend's gone very well. The weather's been good and the bands are ok, so we're all happy.

VF: Do you just work at festivals?
S: We do shows as well as festivals; this is the time of year when we get out into the open air which makes a nice change.

VF: Who's been the most difficult band to work with at Download?
S: Peaches. She had an almighty strop and threw her own guitar at me when it didn't work!

VF: When you see 'extreme on-stage behaviour' like that do you ever get concerned that the artists will regret it afterwards and try to stop them?
S: Not when they're doing it to themselves - just the equipment.

VF: Which bands have caught your eye this weekend?
S: International Noise Conspiracy and Ikara Colt were good.

VF: What qualities do you think it takes to be a stage manager?
S: I wouldn't know. That's why I'm on the 3rd stage!

VF: So you're aspiring to get on the main stage?
S: No. Too much work!

VF: Are you ever tempted to just get a proper job?
S: No, wouldn't have it any other way!

John Fowler - at the On-Site Pharmacy Tent

Virtual Festivals: Can you explain what you do at the festival?
John Fowler: We are a pharmacy that goes around to all the big outdoor events providing anything people might need, Neurofen, hangover cures and more specific things too.

Are you at any other festivals?
Yeah, we'll be at V and the Hyde Park Chilis gigs

Is the pharmacy tent a new thing?
It's about 5 years old now; we've also done most of the UK motor sports events at places like Brands Hatch and Silverstone.

Is Download your sort of music?
Yeah, well it's ok. I went to see Monster Magnet and they were cool, just missed the Hives though.

Have you seen any mad festival moments this year?
Over there a minute ago was a drunk climbing into somebody else's tent who proceeded to wet himself. That was a highlight.

Richard from the Herbal Highs and Vodka Jelly Stall:
'Friday night was busy and then everyone runs out of money. We've sold a hell of a lot vodka jelly though.'

Mark the beverage man (pictured left of shot):
'I'm here to sell lollys, pop and water.'

His Mate (right)
'I'm here for the free music really. I mean you sell these (drinks) but you get to see the music and you walk out with more money than you walked in with, which cant be bad can it?'

Best band?
'Linkin Park and the guy who stapled his bollocks to his leg!'

Steve O?
'Yup that's the man'.

Who would you like to share your tent with?
'Marilyn Manson'
'Denise Van Outen'
