The Great Pyramid of Pilton: five bands to watch at Glasto

In the last five years, it’s seen performances from Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Blur and The Who, with U2, Beyonce and Coldplay set to headline this year.

We take a look at five of the must-see acts to take to the main stage at this year’s festival.

Wu Tang Clan – ‘M.E.T.H.O.D. Man’
(Friday: 15:00 – 16:00)
The influential collective includes rappers Method Man, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah and has been voted the fifth greatest hip-hop group of all time by MTV. Known for launching the careers of dozens of rappers, singers and producers, their most recent release is a collection of dubstep remixes of songs by Clan members and affiliates.

Biffy Clyro – ‘Living is a Problem Because Everything Dies’
(Friday: 18:15 – 19:15)
Hailing from Kilmarnock, the hairy, tattooed Scotsmen have cemented their reputation through consistent releases and energetic live performances. Mainstream success quickly followed their 2009 release ‘Only Revolutions’, and the trio are set to headline Sonisphere and Wakestock festivals later on this year.

Morrissey – ‘First of the Gang to Die’
(Friday: 20:00 – 21:15)
Innovative but often depressing, the ex-Smiths frontman could easily take the Sunday legend’s slot. Instead, he’ll open for U2 on Friday night – expect a weird mix of hit singles and obscure B-sides (from both of them).

Coldplay – ‘Yellow’
(Saturday: 22:15 – 23:45)
If you’re not busy checking out the Chemical Brothers then there’s no excuse not to watch these festival favourites headline on Saturday night. Whether you’re a massive fan or a casual listener, there’s sure to be something for everyone. Even if you hate them, at least they’ll teach you how not to dance.

Pendulum – Voodoo People
(Sunday: 19:45 – 21:00)
A strange warm-up act for Beyonce, but we’ll take it. The drum and bass superstars mix and match genres with a live band setup and audiovisual displays that add a touch of rock and metal to their signature electronica. Seasoned veterans of the festival scene, there’s a good chance you’ve already seen them, but if you have then odds are you’ll want to see them again.

Glastonbury Festival 2011 will take place at Worthy Farm in Somerset from 22-26 June.

U2, Coldplay and Beyonce are set to headline the festival, which will also see performances from Primal Scream, The Chemical Brothers and Queens of the Stone Age.
