Dane Cobain - 16 June 2011
Organised by Emily Eavis and home to a myriad of late-night bars and open-air performances, the Park
Stage hosts the prestigious secret sets which last year welcomed Radiohead’s Thom Yorke
and Jonny Greenwood. We take a look at five of the acts that are billed to perform there.
Jenny and Johnny – Friday – 15:30 – 16:25
Former child actress Jenny Lewis first gained attention as the vocalist for indie-folk act Rilo Kiley. As well as releasing
five albums with the band, she’s put out two solo records and is currently touring with boyfriend Johnathon Rice in
support of their debut album ‘I’m Having Fun Now’.
Crystal Castles – Friday – 23:15
– 00:15
Headlining the Park Stage on Friday, Crystal Castles pack a hefty electronic punch by combining the production of Ethan Kath and
the vocals of Alice Glass. Known for their chaotic live shows, (skip in to 2:20 for an example), they’re sure to bring
havoc to the Park.
Graham Coxon – Saturday – 15:30 –
16:45
The former Blur guitarist must be annoyed at performing in the middle of the afternoon after Damon Albarn's Gorillaz
headlined the Pyramid Stage last year. Still, the energy and the attitude is still there and Graham’s live shows are
vaguely reminiscent of the late, great Joe Strummer.
Gruff Rhys – Sunday – 21:30 –
22:35
The Super Furry Animals frontman has toured and performed consistently for years, collaborating with acts as diverse
as Mogwai, Gorillaz, De La Soul and Goldie Lookin’ Chain. A solo performer in his own right, he closes the stage on
Sunday night.
James Blake –Saturday – 21:30 –
22:15
Young electronic musician James Blake was the runner up in the BBC’s Sound of 2011 poll and released his self-titled debut album
earlier this year. Catch him opening for Saturday night’s Park Stage headliners, Wild Beasts.
