The Isle of Wight’s so far! Why should I bother?
Now that’s not the kind of attitude
that led to Isle of Wight Festival 1970, where numbers in excess of half a million swarmed the small island to create Britain’s
own Woodstock...
That sounds great! If I had a time machine...
You don’t need one.
Today’s historic acts are still playing with Iggy and the Stooges, Public Image Ltd
and Manic Street Preachers are expected to give
it to us old school, while a whole host of up-and-comers provide the padding; The Vaccines, Brother
and Hurts to name a few. Not to mention Pulp
- if it’s Cocker certified, it’s bound to be a belter!
That’s true.
Wait,
I haven’t even mentioned the headliners! Kings Of Leon,
Foo Fighters and Kasabian
will play with Liam Gallagher’s Beady Eye in the
comedy tent.
I didn’t know there was a comedy tent!
Oh, there isn’t, you’re
right. They’re playing the main stage.
What else is going on?
Look out for the Eco-charge
tent in the arena. All you need to do is become a human hamster through pedalling on an exercise bike to charge your phone
for free. Even if you’re an achey mess after that, it’s still an offence not to go shake your stuff at the Hipshaker
bar. Local DJs and live bands chased by cocktails? That’s more VF’s kind of exercise!

Stornoway
Haunting folk from the Oxford four-piece won’t go amiss in the summer sun. Grab a beer and a good spot to see them
shine.
Foo Fighters
While it’s certain
they’ll be belting out the classics, you don’t want to miss the rockers’ debuting some of their new gems
from their “heaviest album yet”, ‘Wasting Light’.
Wild Beasts
While the name may make
you think of Steel Panther-esque glam rockers with hairy chests, Wild Beasts are a band to mellow out to. The perfect festival act.
Manic Street Preachers
Do they
even need an introduction? See them headline Big Top on the Sunday to round off your weekend with some newies as well as classic
tunes from the alt-rock trio.
