About Ilosaarirock 2009
Set in the eastern city of Joensuu, Ilosaarirock is one of the longest running uninterrupted open-air festivals in Europe.
The
21,000 tickets have been wrapped up in advance since 1997, a testament to the 90 odd bands from Finland and Europe who play
each year, spanning genres from jazz and heavy metal to hip-hop and reggae.
The festival site is only a short walk
from the town of Joensuu, eastern Finland, which gives revellers the chance to burn the midnight oil further with a selection
of four clubs (tickets available separately). Two camping areas are also open to ticket holders, as are the two adjoining
beaches for a well deserved aquatic break.
The festival bus service (the Rokki Buses) run throughout the weekend to
Joensuu train station which has rail connections with major Finnish cities, notably Helsinki whose international airport provides
links to many European destinations.
