Glastonbury, the world's most famous music festival, will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2010 with another five-day extravaganza of world class music,

Arguably the world's most famous music and arts event is a three-day extravaganza that traditionally sprawls over five days with the majority of fans turning up on the Wednesday before it kicks off to watch the festival build up.

Over 170,000 festival-goers take up more than 1000 Somerset acres to witness performances from the world's biggest artists down to the outright obscure. Irrespective of nationality, genre, fashion or age any band, artist, speaker, thespian or poet can be booked for the greatest stage on earth.

The best 'current' acts will take up most of the bill on the main stages, but the festival will always welcome back old favourites with Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, Van Morrison and Johnny Cash performing in the past. Organisers even revealed that they want to have an act from every year of the festival performing in 2010.

More than 1000 acts play across dozens of stages and arenas, including the Pyramid Stage, Other Stage, John Peel Tent, Jazz World, Dance Village, Left Field, Avalon, Acoustic Stage and the Park Stage.

But Glastonbury Festival is often about looking beyond the main arena with a magical maze of creative fields, relaxing leas and late-night obscurity. Many discover the famous Green Fields, infamous Stone Circle, Shangri-La and Tipi Fields for a completely unique festival experience.

Glastonbury 2010 will also be heavily committed to charity and green issues with recycling encouraged, an emphasis on renewable energy sources and the highlighting of world issues.
