Big Day Out Gold Coast, Australia
19th January 2003
"The sun was hot,
the beer was cold the atmosphere was absolutely electric and I can't wait to do it all again in Sydney in 3 days
time." - Mike Pittman (who commented on the following bands)
Foo Fighters
"Dave and the boys seem as tight as
ever, playing all the classics like 'My Hero', 'This Is A Call', 'Monkey Wrench' mixed with songs of their new album (including
the MASSIVE opener 'All My Life'). A very good set from the Foo's. I think finaly the Foo Fighters are getting the recognition
that they deserve as one of the best bands in the world."
Kraftwerk
"They were absolutly fantastic. I thought it was
a bit of a gamble to include them on the bill (they don't exactly have a big fan-base here in Australia) but after this performance
I'm sure their fan base will expand quickly. This set was stunning both visually and musically. Out of all the bands on the
day, Kraftwerk definitely drew the most attention."
PJ Harvey
"She was crap"
Queens
of the Stoneage
"I dont think the Queens are having a very successful BDO tour (having to re-do their set last on a smaller stage
in Auckland), but it was great to see these guys again, and (in my opinion) they lived up to their fantastic performances
in 2001. The highlight of the set was definitely new single 'No-one Knows'."
The Vines
"I have never been
a fan of the band, but after this dreadful performance I'm surprised they have any fans at all. Seriously, singer Craig was
so wasted that he could barely get himself together to sing 2 lines of ANY of the songs they played! The other members of
the band just looked embarrassed. The Vines definitely get my vote for Worst band of the day."
