The Temper Trap open with news reports from last
summer’s riots to an excited crowd on the second day of Wilderness 2012.
They screech headlong into
‘London’s Burning’, their comment on being caught up on the summer 2011 disturbances in London whilst living
in Hackney, following relocation from Melbourne, Australia.
It’s delivered with the best of intentions but
is twee at best and a league away from the gritty reality of Plan B’s
equivalent comment.
'I Need Your Love' is exhilarating and lead singer Dougy Mandagi is an assured frontman with
his instantly recognisable high-rise vocals.
Despite playing a number of tracks from their recent album, the crowd
are ultimately waiting for the hits and there’s a huge roar of appreciation at the intro to 'Love Lost'.
The band pause the music part-way through their set to tell us about their mishap at Wilderness, being stung by a nettle!
Their current single, ‘Trembling Hands’ is filled with melancholy, and could easily match the popularity
of earlier singles, and as if to remind us just how good that song was, they end with an elongated introduction to the
much sampled ‘Sweet Disposition’.
