Our guide to experiencing Evolution Festival 2011

So what kind of evolution is happening in Newcastle?
It's the music evolution! You will get to see
many new-comers and already established acts in the city from 28-29 May.
Who that's? Cheryl
Cole?
No, don't you know she is busy with the X Factor? You'll be able to hear the celtic sounds of Clare Maguire's music, dance to Katy B's dubstep infused anthems as well as see artists like Jamie Woon, Gaggle
and more live on Saturday's Baltic Square Stage. Then Plan
B, Example, Darwin Deez and Spark will
make you go crazy on Sunday's Spillers Wharf. Get ready to party!
Sounds Great! But it's
only a two- day event? That's enough for me...
Hold on, party freak! Hope you will be able to handle the whole
thing because there's more going on. You can start your wicked weekend on 27 May with a series of Evolution
Emerging events across Ouseburn Valley. You will be able to experience 24 acts, 3 guest headliners and DJ sets across
6 different venues! But that's not all the good news - all the gigs are completely FREE!
Sounds amazing!
So, who, do you think, I can’t afford to miss at Evolution 2011?
Well, try this lot:
The Kills
With their new album out, called ‘Blood
Pressures’, and their killer single ‘Satellite’ taking over the airwaves, this band are right
on top of their game.
Clare Maguire
Clare will surely become
one of the biggest names in the industry soon. With her voice being compared with Cher's and Annie Lenox, this ambitious girl
has already secured the fifth place at the BBC Sound Of 2011 poll. The Celtic tone of her voice and unique style is definitely
something you need to hear live.
Katy B
If you feel like you lack energy at
the festival, you have to see Katy B live! This dub step princess
will surely make you dance to the groove of her latest single ‘Broken Record’. The singer says her mission
is to make underground overground. Check her out and see if she can complete that task.
Detroit Social Club
If you are
up for some quality indie rock, then this band won’t let you down. Experience the cool vibes with their latest single
‘I am revolution’. I heard some rumours that they plan to split, so make sure you don’t miss this
chance to see the band play for what could be one of the last times.
Example
His appreciation for rhyme and rhythm will
make you want to listen to his breakthrough album ‘Won’t Go Quietly’ again and again. He definitely
is set to put on the show at this year’s Evolution. His mix of hip-hop and dance genres will be a breath of fresh pop
air.
But that's not all, either! We've got a Spotify
playlist you can download here.
Wow! I’m so excited! Can’t wait! Can I still buy tickets?
Yes! Weekend ticket prices start at £35 with day tickets priced at £25. Click here to buy Evolution Festival tickets.
What else should I know
before the party starts?
Make sure you find a place to stay. There are no camping facilities as the festival
is held in the iconic urban setting of Newcastle Gateshead Quayside. Also, there’s no vehicle access.
Finally
if you've got your ticket and want to check out the sounds before the festival comes around then check out our Evolution
Festival Spotify playlist by clicking here.
And the last thing - make sure you have fun! Auf Wiedersehen, Pet!
