Glasto boarders in the buff for charity

08 December 2005

Here's a cracking Christmas idea ... Glastonbury's message boarders have posed semi-nude for an 18-month calendar counting down to the 2007 festival! It's only a tenner and all proceeds go to charity.

The glossy calendar features 30 brave Message Boarders, all set against scenes from Glastonbury Festival (however, if the idea of having naked strangers staring at you for the next year and a half is a bit offputting, fear not, as the calendar is double sided and the flip just shows the festival scenes.)

The idea had been discussed on Glasto's Message Boards for some time, but was finally agreed upon to raise money for a young relative of one boarder, a 10-month old baby suffering from DiGeorge syndrome. Proceeds from the calendar will also go to the Max Appeal (which supports those with the illness) and ACAD (Advise of Counselling and Drugs.)

One of the boarders involved, David (aka SwagBag), told VF: "The way that the people on the boards have come together for this project has been amazing. Without a doubt I can say that this has been a true showing of community and the Glastonbury spirit. The fact that people have donated their time, money and skills to sit down and help those less fortunate than themselves is a credit to themselves and to the virtual community they inhabit.

"The main reason behind the calendar was to raise money to buy the ventilators to allow the baby to come home (he's been living in a hospital all his life) and also so he can lead as a comfortable a life as possible."

The original aim was to do the photo shoot for the calendar on Worthy Farm, but Glasto boss Michael Eavis was unfortunately on holiday and the boarders had a deadline to hit.

Instead they met in various locations (one volunteer travelled more than eight hours to get to one photo shoot!) and mocked up Glasto scenes or used technological trickery to make it look as if all the models were are at the festival.

And an 18 month calendar??

"We decided to make it an 18 month calendar to basically show the countdown to Glastonbury 2007", David said. "With no festival in 2006 we just needed a little something to keep us happy until June 2007 rolled around!"

The calendar is on sale now priced 10 (+2 postage) and orders can be placed now in time for Christmas. Click here for all the info you need on ordering one of these calendars for a very good cause.
