A history of the Glastonbury Festival from the beginning to the present day...
More than any other popular music festival in British history, Glastonbury holds mythical status as an event that equates to more than 'just' music. Few festivals in the world can boast that they have a certain 'entity', and what that entity represents is greater than the bands themselves. One goes to Glastonbury, because IT IS Glastonbury. Full stop. The tales that surround this magical tract of rolling English greenery, range from the ecstatic to the demented, from the angelic to the outright devilish.
Looking back over 30 years, as the bands, the styles, the ticket prices, the weather and the politics have changed, there has always been that signature Glastonbury spark, that carefree, positive, enthusiastic attitude that seems to naturally radiate from people once they cross through those mythical gates [or jump that mythical fence -Ed]. Glastonbury is a festival that has become an institution and a way of life. A year is simply not complete without that Glasto fix.
