Ellen Tout looks ahead to Underage Festival 2011 with who to see, video highlights and a Spotify playlist.
Hey mister, I’m only a teenager, why can’t I go to a festival?
You’re in luck child, you can. Underage is the world’s first festival to cater strictly for those aged between 13 and 17 years old. What’s more, that means that no parents are allowed in!
That’s great news, but mine will be a little worried!
They needn’t be. The festival is 100% prepared and has collaborated with the local police services to make sure all teenagers attending are safe.
Great, where do I need to be then?
Underage Festival will take place from 11am to 8pm on Friday 5 August at Victoria Park, East London.
What bands can I expect to see?
The 13 to 17 rule doesn’t apply to bands, so you can catch Bombay Bicycle Club, Vampire Weekend‘s Chris Baio, Ms Dynamite and so many more.
I’m awful at picking bands, can you recommend five and show me video content for all of them?
Bombay Bicycle Club
Ahead of the release of their new album, ‘A Different Kind of Fix’, Bombay Bicycle Club promise an indie-folk filled set. Expect hits from ‘Always Like This’ to acoustic number ‘Ivy & Gold’.
Pulled Apart By Horses
This alternative-rock group from Leeds will not let you down with energy filled numbers like ‘High Five, Swan Dive, Nose Dive’- reminiscent of Foo Fighters heavier material. Last year they were nominated for the ‘Virtual Festivals Critics’ Choice’ at the Festival Awards.
A man of many talents, Miles Kane was initially a member of The Rascals, a support group for the Arctic Monkeys. But a support slot was not enough for Kane who spent most of 2008 touring with Alex Turner as the Last Shadow Puppets. Now a fully-fledged solo artist Kane brings his Noel Gallagher approved music to Underage.
Brining Hip Hop to Underage, Loick Essien has previously collaborated with countless artists from N-Dubz and Labrinth to Chipmunk and Bashy. His recent single, ‘How We Roll’, reached the number two spot in the UK singles chart.
Her colourful Glastonbury 2011 performance wowed even the harshest of critics. With three Grammy Award nominations already in hand Monae brings her unstoppable jazz-pop infusion to Underage. We predict heaps of energy and a belting performance of ‘Tightrope’.
And the boring part: Tickets, costs and travel…
As for travel, Victoria Park is conveniently located near to Bethnal Green or Mile End tube stations, in East London.
Alternatively, the Big Green Coach travel company have all your Underage travel needs sorted.
