Crisp from last year’s paced performance in the Dance tent, Modestep are back with their own brand of electronica mixed with the rockiest of rock. The dubstep droppers are continuing a theme of samply dance that remains very popular with Leeds Festival goers but, unlike others, the young four-piece are resplendent with shiny instruments. Thus, while their tune ‘To The Stars‘ remains croony-naff, the experimental edge that remains to their music- even while sampling Flux Pavilion‘s ‘I Can’t Stop‘- is sharper than Skrillex‘s the previous night.
It’s honestly refreshing to see more crowd interaction than the behind-decks “yeah, yeah come on!” that plagues many dance acts of the weekend, as the band’s remix of Knife Party‘s ‘Bonfire‘ is electronically guitared to major success.
As vocalist Josh Friend leads the crowd into bouncy action upon a trampoline for recent song ‘Another Day‘, the well-gathered crowd is still waiting for the hit. When it comes, ‘Sunlight‘ is undoubtedly well-received. Expect to see more from the act who won over metalheads at Download a few months ago, and Leeds Festival just now.
