Festival app review: Sonisphere 2011

Rocking out with your mobile out - Sonisphere goes all hi-tech ahead of the three-day festival.

Packed with (almost) every feature imaginable, the official Sonisphere smartphone app has everything you’ll need to find your way around Knebworth. From the interactive map that guides you between the stages to the comprehensive listings and news feeds, the only worry is whether your battery lasts for the weekend.

The listings are the icing on top of the devil-horned cake, searchable and indexed alphabetically by artist name, date and stage. You can even save your favourite artists to a personalised schedule, then check out the venue on the map and share your plans to Facebook and Twitter. From All Time Low to You Me At Six, the comprehensive guide even includes the silent disco and the two minute silence for the late, great Paul Gray.

If that’s not enough, how about the RSS feed of the latest news, from tour reports and spoilers to interviews, with the key players? The app keeps you up-to-date with the latest tweets and lets you add to them from your mobile, as well as providing a picture and video gallery to make sure that you’re entertained between bands.

But the app saves the best until last, the coupons section that offers discounts and special offers that you can use both at the festival and online, including £5 off any official Sonisphere clothing which means the app pays for itself after just one purchase. You can get the app on iPhone, Blackberry and Android, just search for ‘Sonisphere’

Add that to frequently updated stage times and a ‘who’s on now’ feature, the official Sonisphere smartphone app is a legal steal at just £2.99 – just don’t forget your air guitars.
