Starting life as a Jazz and Blues festival in the 1960s, Reading is only rivalled by Glastonbury in respect to historical and cultural importance on the UK festival scene. However the event today is released from the Jazz and Blues shackles and has taken a predominantly Rock stance in regards to booking bands.
Recently Rock legends like Iron Maiden, Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins have all performed over the August Bank Holiday weekend and rumours have already suggested that the newly-reformed Rage Against The Machine will be playing this year.
The three-day festival is twinned with Leeds Festival and the two sites share a rotating line-up. The main open-air stage is filled with the biggest players in Rock and it’s down to the four tents to deliver the diversity of indie, hip hop, punk, ska, dance and comedy.
The campsite is legendary in its reputation for hard drinking, hard partying after hours, although you may prefer to stay in the luxury of your own PodPad, which are available to rent. Visit www.podpads.com
