‘Les Rencontres Trans Musicales’ was created back in 1979 as a festival with a uniquely alternative vision to promote new musical characters and ideas whilst bridging the artistic gaps that exist between cultures.
With a true European feel, this French festival will be celebrating its 30th birthday this year and will put its remarkable musical diversity on show at a variety of venues across the town of Rennes, Brittany.
Whilst ‘Les Trans’ has remained true to its vision throughout its existence it also takes great pride in striving to deliver true musical discovery. Like a site-seeing cruise this edition will take you through the sights and sounds of places as unfamiliar as Malta and the Faroe Islands, some of the most celebrated French artists and up and coming acts from the US, the UK and other European destinations.
The festival gave the likes of Nirvana, Bjork and Ben Harper their first ever live appearances in France and last December’s event saw Santogold, Calvin Harris and the Tings Tings take to the stage months before their ascension to the major festival stages this summer.
The guarantee of witnessing the making of some truly great acts and the emergence of others remains ever-present. With two hip-hop dance companies on show and an eyeful of visual entertainment also on offer across two theatres, this festival promises an oustanding cultural, musical and European experience.
Flights to various European destinations run through Rennes St Jacques International Airport while Rennes Rail Station is on the High Speed Eastern France TGV line running to and from Paris where international rail connections can be made.
