Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik, is poetically nestled between lava fields, geysers and waterfalls and since 1999 it has hosted the country’s largest music festival. The huge five-day event provides a global platform for top Icelandic talent as well as stellar international artists and DJs.
Over 170 acts perform across 15 venues sprawled in the downtown area of the city with many club using the mixmasters to provide the after-party tunes. Bloc Party, The Flaming Lips and Fatboy Slim have all played the festival so it is never short of a big name or two.
Then, traditionally, the ultimate chill out party takes place at the end of the festival in the Blue Lagoon. Organisers hand pick acts to perform for the hung-over hoards and partied-out revellers while they have a relaxing soak in the lagoon itself – perfect!
